and teachers from 17 area schools attended an interactive educational

session at Myers Park High School to prepare for the Sachs Student Dialogue.

- February 26, 2003 Fourth Echo Award Dinner: With an
introduction by Ambassador Mark Erwin, President and CEO of

Erwin Capital, Director of Columbia University Earth Institute Dr. Jeffrey Sachs was the
Keynote Speaker.

His address on the topic of Environment, Poverty and Healthcare on a Global Scale was delivered to

approximately 600 guests. The dinner honored Architect and Social Activist
Harvey B. Gantt with The Echo

Award Against
Indifference.
- Student
Dialogue:
Myers Park High School hosted a 1.5-hour discussion between
students and
Professor
Sachs. Students
based their questions on knowledge acquired from their studies suing the
curriculum
guide and Student
Tolerance Day.
- GIEES Sustainable
Development Forum:
Panel discussion with Dr. Sachs and regional
scientists,
educators,
students, public agency, non-profit organizations and business leaders.
This public dialogue
addressed local,
regional and global environmental and economic concerns.
- 2nd
Forum For Hope:
Hosted by Foundation For The Carolinas. Round-table
discussion with Sachs
and Charlotte area
business/ community leaders to focus on "The Economics of
Environment."
Encouraged
participants to
investigate opportunities for positive change toward a sustainable region,
state and globe.

- April 2-6, 2003 ‘Without Borders" Moving
Poets Theater of Dance presented a production inspired by Jeffrey Sachs’

work. Production was set in a community struggling with poverty and disease, and
told the story of a family

affected by HIV/AIDS.
